Alpha Delta Pi was founded on May 15, 1851 in Macon, Georgia, making it the first sorority. The beliefs and values of our six founders mold our thoughts and actions today and will for generations to come. Our open motto “We live for each other,” is more than just a motto, it is our way of life.
The women of Alpha Delta Pi are your champions. They will not only be your shoulder to cry on, but they will also be the ones who cheer you on through the steps of college and life. During my freshman year, I struggled being far from home. I confided in one of my alpha class sisters, who took me back to her hometown. We had a nice home cooked meal and spent time with her family. She knew exactly what I needed without having to ask. From that point on, I knew this group of women would feel like home. This is just one example, but other women in this chapter have stories that are very similar to mine--stories of acceptance, kindness, and understanding. A champion is someone who pushes you to your highest potential. They not only encourage you to strive for academic excellence, but they help shape you into the woman you never knew you could become.
When I first came to Kentucky, I thought I was going through recruitment to meet new people and ease my transition into school. What I didn’t know was that I was going to find my role models, my best friends, my future bridesmaids, and 300 women that make me feel special and unconditionally accepted and supported. Alpha Delta Pi has given me more than I could ever give back. I’m not sure how I got so lucky, but I’m eternally grateful for finding this chapter three years ago.
